Cut-Outs

These works are based on a technique of the French artist Henri Matisse. The artist used this technique for his famous "Cut-Outs".

Matisse developed this technique after a major surgery. Because of this surgery he was no longer able to paint or sculpt. He therefore had his assistants paint large sheets of paper and then cut them into shapes. With the cut out shapes, Matisse then made compositions. I found this way of working interesting and therefore I applied Matisse his technique. In my work I also incorporated my own themes and gave my own twist to the visual language.
